implicit modifier is the base mod of an item.
items can have a max of 3 prefixes and 3 suffixes
unique items have a predetermined list of mods they can have.
suffixes are more valuable than prefixes.

corrupting

corrupting is the final step of crafting. you cannot modify a corrupted item.
corrupting an item can replace its implicit mod or add a new one.
corrupting / vaal always has one of four outcomes:

nothing
adds corrupted modifier
rerolls existing mods
add socket

for skill gems:

Gains a level.
Loses a level.
Gains a support gem slot.
Loses a support gem slot
Loses 2-10% Quality.
Gains 2-10% Quality.
corrupted skill gems can be leveled up afterwards. socketed runes or soul cores can be replaced with toher runes or cores.

you can use vaal on trapped essence mosnter:
7. Increase the number of Essences.
8. Reroll all Essences to a different type.
9. Upgrade Essences to Greater Essences, or a Greater Essence to a Corrupted Essence.

using vaal is the only way to obtain corrupted essence.
omen of corruption removes the chance of nothing happening.

divine orbs rerolls within the mods tier range. Vaal can change the tier.
vaal only rerolls unique items.

pickup and buy items with quality in them whenever possible
pickup items with rune sockets
you can select to force to throw abilities with a certain equipped weapon.
you can distribute skill points for different weapon sets. You don't need double the skill points to do this, it branches off your existing points.
